OZONE OXIDATION

I am trying to use the O3 oxidation of natural humic acid solutions that O3 is able to decompose the hydrophobic part of the organic matter, responsible for membrane fouling, very efficiently. However, it is not possible to achieve a high mineralization degree with pure O3 oxidation. Nanofiltration is an attractive technology to treat surface water for the production of drinking water. Due to scaling and fouling of the membranes, the water recovery in nanofiltration is generally limited to about 87%. Figure here shows that O3 concentration on the residual COD, hydrophobic COD and UV absorbance (UVA) at 254 nm and this for information of experimental evaluation. A substantial COD decrease of 54% could be achieved at low O3 concentrations. This is also depicted from the figure. COD was reduced more when  O3 concentrations was increased but little. I suggest here to study the benefit over the economics of this  little add up. The hydrophobic fraction of COD removed by O3 and  the removal degree of hydrophobic COD is substantially higher than the removal degree of total COD. At the lowest O3 concentration (25 mg per liter), Still the experiment has to go further to show that  56% COD reduction while 70% hydrophobic COD reduction. A COD reduction of 85% needed to  avoid accumulation of organic matter. This could not be achieved with pure O3 oxidation. Even an increase of the reaction time from 10 to 25 or 35 minutes could not improve COD reduction.
